Connect Groups

Connect Groups are how we care for each other.
Lead a Group
At its core, a Connect Group is less about what you do and more about who you do it with. We all need each other and that’s why we have Connect Groups.

Wherever you are in the world, you can lead a connect group!

Leading a Connect Group

Whether you’re meeting online or in person or a combination of both, connect groups are how we care for each other.

“This group is such a special gift from the Lord. He called not only students based in the United States, but He also brought in Israel, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and South Korea! This was definitely exceedingly and abundantly more than I could ever imagine!"

Tara, Connect Group Leader, Acts Part 1: Precept Upon Precept, Massachusetts

You don’t need to have it all together to lead a connect group—you just have to be willing to let God use you. To host a group, you simply choose a topic that interests you and select a time and location to meet with others to share it. We believe God uses connect groups to change people’s lives, and as a connect group leader, you get to be a part of that.

What is a Watch Party?

WHAT: A watch party is simply a connect group that consists of people who live in the same local area and participate in the online worship experience together each week, to build community, and encourage each other to grow in their faith. You can invite others to watch the service with you at one of the service times each Sunday or meet during the week and watch service together on demand. It’s a great opportunity to invite others who normally wouldn’t go to a church building to join you at your home to experience God. You can eat, hang out, worship and discuss the sermon.

WHO: Anyone can host a watch party connect group. You don’t need any experience! Hosting a watch party is simple, you just need to: Have a HEART for people. OPEN your home. SERVE a snack. And TELL a friend.

WHERE: We encourage you to host a watch party at your home, place of business, etc. The location is up to you. We do encourage you to have a TV or monitor that you can connect to for the live stream. This can be done via, YouTube or Facebook.

WHY: We want to be a church that reaches people all over the world for Jesus Christ and we don’t want to limit our church to the four walls of a building in New York City. You can have church wherever you are!

HOW: We’ve made it simple to sign up and host a connect group watch party this semester. Lead a watch party connect group!

What happens at a connect group meeting?

You’ve probably seen connect groups meeting and not even realized it. A connect group looks like friends at lunch, teams playing basketball, or people studying a book or topic of interest. At its core, a connect group is a small gathering of people, and it is less about what you do and more about who you do it with. By participating in connect groups, you can expect to connect with others through a common activity, engage in life-giving conversation and request prayer.

How often does a connect group meet?

Our connect groups meet for three semesters a year—winter/spring, summer and fall. During the semester, most groups meet once a week. Connect groups are meant to bring meaning and community into the flow of your life. Even if you can’t attend every meeting, there is still great value in joining a group.

How long does a typical connect group stay together?

Most connect groups meet for a semester. This way, new people can join groups easily and regularly. The semester format also allows you to try multiple groups each year. As relationships form, some groups choose to stay together for consecutive semesters, but new members are always welcome.

Is there childcare available?

Childcare varies from group to group. When you search our directory for a group, the group profile will indicate if childcare is available.

What if I don’t like the first group I try?

The truth is, not everyone will find the best fit with the first group they try. This is why we encourage you to select a few groups that interest you, contact the leaders and try out a couple different groups before choosing the best one for you. The simple strategy to finding success in connect groups is to not give up. We believe there is a group that is right for everyone—including you!
